A new version of the Flynet Telnet Recorder (proxy recorder) is available. Along with a few minor protocol interpetation fixes, this version includes time-stamping of the exact starting point of the raw recording file.
The raw recording files, which have an extension of .log, are converted to standard Flynet .rec files on completion of a connection between a terminal emulator user and the host application. The .rec file for a given .log file can also be created later using the Telnet Recorder’s File / Convert Log file menu option.
The advantage of the time-stamping comes when recording work of a user that has multiple emulator windows open. Since each emulator gets its own log/rec file created, when trying to identify how the files are related later, accurate timestamps on each screen displayed during the session are critical.
A future release of Flynet Viewer Studio will also be offering a “filmstrip” recording viewer, which allows multiple recording files to be viewed in the same window (in horizontal time strips). When the recording’s screen timestamps have an overlap, the screens will be positioned relative to each other, providing a clear picture and analysis of how the user moved from one emulator session to another as part of his or her work.
